Students and staff had a wonderful time learning Bollywood with Karima Essa the last couple of days. It was so much fun learning something new and participating in such high energy classes.

We had a very meaningful Pink Shirt Day Assembly on Feb 26th centered around what Pink Shirt Day means to us at Mamquam. This year’s Pink Shirt Day message is all about cultivating a community of kindness. Just like tending to a garden, together we can each help nurture a sense of belonging where we live and go to school.
It all starts with small gestures— a kind word, an offer of support or understanding. If we plant enough, pretty soon, more will be sprouting up all around us! By sprinkling these seeds of empathy and compassion, we can work towards a world without bullying and "Let Kindness Grow" through all of our community gardens.
Here at Mamquam we have been working hard as a community to be community minded, good thinkers and good communicators. You all work every day to get better at these things.

It is Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday February 26! If possible, please wear pink (or shades of) to show your support of kindness and anti-bullying.

We will have a KiND Photo "booth" set up for students during long recess on Wednesday Feb 26th (Grades K-3) and Thursday Feb 27th (Grades 4-6). Students can bring $2 to have their photo taken and will get to take it home!

The whole school had a lovely walk this morning in support of the Coldest Night of the Year. Thank you to the families that joined us and thank you for all of the donations as well as supporting the candy jar raffle. Our school raised over $300 to support Squamish Helping Hands.

Throughout the school year parents/guardians and family members will be invited to attend field trips with their child's class or volunteer in the classroom or for various school events. We are excited to announce that Mamquam is now registered for online criminal record checks. This process will now be much easier and quicker. Criminal record checks are valid for two years from approval. Our Mamquam grade 5/6 basketball team hosted the very first game of the season on Tuesday afternoon against Valleycliffe Elementary. Everyone played really well and had a great time. Thank you to the coaches and all of the family spectators for cheering the teams on.

Did you know Ms. Buxton's K/1 class has a bearded dragon class pet!? His name is Jaxx and is very sweet, the staff and students love him!

We are really excited to welcome Karima Essa, a three-time Canadian National Dance Champion to Mamquam on February 27th and 28th. Karima is a charismatic Bollywood dancer, choreographer and performer. In 2014 and 2015, her love for Bollywood took her to Mumbai as a two-time finalist on Omni TV's reality show, Bollywood Star. Since first showcasing in 2018, she has performed shows and workshops in 250+ schools across BC and Saskatchewan. Karima's new focus is on celebrating that all bodies can dance by bringing the body positivity movement to Bollywood Dance in schools.

SSCS childcare programs and out of school care programs located on school grounds will be closed on Friday February 21st to allow educators to attend a professional development conference.
